Check out which fighters won performance bonuses from UFC Fight Night: Munhoz vs. Edgar

The UFC APEX Center in Las Vegas, Nevada was home to a great night of fights a UFC Fight Night: Munhoz vs. Edgar. The card saw four (T)KOs, one submission and six decisions.

*Tonight’s event was shortened even further after Ovince Saint Preux was forced off the card due to Covid testing issues, causing his co-main event bout with Alonzo Menifield to be pulled and rescheduled for September 5th.

The prelims opened with a rock-em-sock-em fight between Timur Valiev and Trevin Jones. The first round was basically Valiev teeing off on Jones from start to finish, easily a 10-8 round. The second round would find the resilient Jones ready and willing, though, where he landed a big right hand that dropped Valiev. A few more follow up bombs and the fight was waved off.

Matthew Semelsberger would take a hard fought unanimous decision over Carlton Minus and Jordan Wright landed a massive spinning back kick right off the bat, opening up a nasty cut over Ike Villanueva’s eye. The doctor stepped in to check the cut, then waved off the fight. Amanda Lemos proved to be too much for Mizuki Inoue, scoring a unanimous decision over the young veteran.

The main card opened with Dwight Grant getting stopped by Daniel Rodriguez, saving everyone from the inevitable, ultra-slow pace we were sure to be subjected to, and Shana Dobson upset the biggest odds line since Holly Holm beat Ronda Rousey when she defeated Mariya Agapova via TKO in round two. Joe Solecki backpacked Austin Hubbard and slapped on a rear-naked choke to take the win in round one. He made it look easy. Maybe I’ll become a fighter, too. Six months of sprawl training, right?

Marcin Pachnio would get stopped for the third time in a row when Mike Rodriguez dropped him then bounced his head off the canvas with followup shots. Thank you, Jason Herzog for the timely stoppage. That was perfect.

The main event was a tactical chess match, to use the old cliche, but it’s absolutely fitting. The men traded jabs and combos (lots and lots of combos), but Munhoz would make a great adjustment by kicking the bejesus out of Edgar’s lead leg and would punish the former champ every time he went for a takedown. Despite Edgar getting his legs chopped up and Munhoz seeming to get the better of the exchanges, Edgar would take the split-decision win.

Performance of the Night: Trevin Jones, Shana Dobson

Trevin Jones (TKO (punches) at 1:59 of round 2), Jordan Wright (TKO (doctor stoppage) 1:31 of round 1), Daniel Rodriguez (TKO (punches) at 2:24 of round 1), Shana Dobson (TKO (strikes) at 1:38 of round 2), Joe Solecki (standing rear-naked choke at 3:51 of round 1). and Mike Rodriguez (TKO (punches) at 2:17 of round 1) all finished their fights inside the distance but it would be Trevin Jones, and Shana Dobson that took home the $50K bonuses.

Fight of the Night: Edgar vs. Munhoz

Matthew Semelsberger (30-26, 30-27, 29-28), Amanda Lemos (30-27 x3), and Frankie Edgar (48-47 Edgar, 49-46 Munhoz, 48-47 Edgar) all heard the final horn but it would be Frankie Edgar’s battle with Pedro Munhoz that would take FOTN honors.
