ORLANDO – Who will be next for Cain Velasquez? We will soon find out, as both Travis Browne and Fabricio Werdum weighed-in on Friday to make their UFC on FOX 11 title eliminator official. Browne tipped the scale at 245.5 pounds, while Werdum, who hasn’t fought since last June, came in at slender 232.5 pounds.
Browne is coming off of three consecutive knockout victories, his latest happening at UFC 168 in Las Vegas over Josh Barnett. The Jackson-Winkeljohn heavyweight has been installed as the Vegas favorite, and why not — he’s made a habit making the judges extraneous. The last time a fight of his went to the scorecards was in 2011 against Rob Broughton.
Meanwhile Werdum, who looked in great shape with some definition in the abs, has won three in a row of his own. The silent contender has surprised people in big fights before, most notably when he upset Fedor Emelianenko in San Jose back in 2010. The winner of this headliner could face Velasquez in Mexico in November.
All the other fighters on both the stacked UFC on FOX 11 main card and undercard made weight as well. In the co-main event, Miesha Tate (135.5) and Liz Carmouche (135) will be looking to get into contention after coming off of losses. They cordially came together for the square off.
The Amway Center crowd erupted for the “people’s main event,” as lightweights Donald Cerrone and Edson Barboza too the scale. Cerrone, who is already fighting in his second bout of 2014, came in at 155, while Barboza weighed in at 156.
