Too sweaty and no good angle. Both pop back up. Dang, they both swing big at center, and Gordon’s head snaps back with the impact of the last blow. Ever-coveting that takedown, Dempsey shoots in again, and once again, nothing doing. Nice little right han there from Gordon, who strafed Dempsey from range. Dempsey again puts his head down and sells out for a single-leg, but Gordon turns stiff on him and ends up grabbing his back on cage wall. They waltz around, and Gordon lets go. Back to center. Big winging punches by Dempsey, slow lunging things, but he’s connecting. Instead of keeping that pressure on, he defaults to a takedown and this time gets it. He tries to advance, and Gordon gets up — then gets dumped back down again. Now Dempsey in side control, and is dropping punches on Gordon. Little turn of the tables here late. Now he has Mizugaki on the fence, and once again Mizugaki scoots his back to fence, trying to wrest himself from Sterling’s grip. They trade leg kicks, then Anderson moves forward with a four-piece combo, and he kicked Villante good on the tail end of it. Anderson goes low with a cross, then blasts away on follow-up up top. Still, Villante initiating action, and he lands a stiff left jab. Leg ick from Villante as “Beatin 25/8” goes up top. There’s another smooth combo with bad intent from Anderson, who peppers Villante with a leg kick/punch combo. He’s finding success on the follow-ups, perhaps a step faster than the New Yorker. Leg kick there from Anderson, and Villante caught it and spun him around. Nice exchange from Villante, and he lands a damn good leg kick on the break. Follows that up with a high kick. Crowd liking the diversity there. Each time the trade in center Villante ends with a leg kick, and those are starting to add up. That lead leg of Anderson’s may start to smart soon. Good combo from Villante, who sneaks an uppercut in that time. Again, Villante blasts Anderson’s leg with a kick after a quick trade. MMA Fighting scores R1 for Villante, 10-9.

Round 2: Wow, they come out swinging. Both guys land early, and Anderson swiped Villante with a powerful little uppercut. Villante moving in, and smashes home a right hand of the combo. Again, after an exchance, Villante chops out the leg of Anderson — and again. Those are starting to toll. That time Anderson caught the leg kick and spun the New Yorker around, but nothing doing otherwise. They are standing and planting in the middle, and Anderson drops home a couple of good shots to Villante’s head. There’s some swelling there now. They trade again, this time inside stuff, with Anderson sneaking an uppercut through as Villante held his head down. Left jab from Villante, and he answers with another leg kick. Both guys still very mobile and active, showing a lot of feints. Anderson from range throws an uppercut, and then whiffs on a left cross. Villante returns fire in the pocket, and might have grazed Anderson with an uppercut. These exchanges are mean in the middle. Both guys dishing and taking damage. The round ends, and Villante walked back to his corner a little slowly. MMA Fighting scores R2 for Villante, 10-9 (20-18 overall)

Round 3: Right before the round gets rolling, the ref halts the action to cut a piece of tape from Villante’s glove. Now they go. Villante with a combo up top to leg kick, but not a lot of mustard on it that time. Anderson moving and throwing the jab. Villante over top with a right hand lands. Again, an exchange that ends with Villante slamming home a leg kick. That time Anderson wobbled a bit. Some blood on Anderson’s lip. They are meeting in the middle and throwing, and Anderson is landing a little better currently. Still, Villante moves him off his moorings with a right hand, and then rolls around. Neither of these guys looks like they will fall. Both absorbing plenty to get their offense. Stiff jab from Anderson, and then he opens up on fence with a right hand. Wow! Just when it looked like this thing was going to go the distance, Villante slams home a huge right hook that put Anderson on the dream flow. As he witlessly staggered towards the fence, Villante comes in with a couple of huge right hand follow-ups and that was that! Referee calls Villante off. What a punch to get that started.
