Now we know why this guy came out of retirement.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is headed back to the “Empire State” for its upcoming UFC on FOX 25 mixed martial arts (MMA) event, locked and loaded for Nassau Coliseum on Sat., July 22, 2017 in what will be the promotion’s Long Island debut.
“The Coliseum has a storied history of hosting major sporting events and is the perfect stage for Long Island’s first UFC event,” Brett Yormark, CEO of Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment, said in a statement Friday (via NY Newsday). “We had a great turnout in Brooklyn for our inaugural card, and look forward to continuing the momentum at the Coliseum on July 22.”
The aforementioned Brooklyn card was UFC 208 (more on that here).
While no fighters have been attached to the UFC on FOX 25 fight card (yet), you can bet hometown hero Chris Weidman will throw his name into the hat, assuming he can escape this event — also in New York — injury free.
The promotion is certainly making good on this promise.
