As we all know, Christmas is about togetherness and watching two terrifyingly violent men knock the stuffing out of each other. Luckily, Robbie Lawler and Rafael dos Anjos are here to deliver this Saturday (Dec. 16, 2017) in the main event of UFC on FOX 26, which takes place inside Bell MTS Place in Winnipeg, Canada.
The afternoon/evening will also feature Ricardo Lamas vs. Josh Emmett, a must-watch war between Santiago Ponzinibbio and Mike Perry, and Misha Cirkunov looking to bounce back against veteran Glover Teixeira.
UFC on FOX 26 looks like a terrific line up of fights. And here’s how to get some dosh to garnish it:
What Went Wrong at UFC Fight Night 123?
Well, I wasn’t wrong when I said Cub Swanson would shut down Brian Ortega’s wrestling and light him up on the feet. I was, however, extremely wrong about the outcome. I didn’t even consider Ortega’s clinch/front headlock game against someone who had no intention of shooting. Major oversight on my part and I’ll cop to it. Anyway, we’re almost back in the black in spite of my own overwhelming incompetence, so how’s about we risk all that?
UFC On FOX 26 Odds For The Undercard:
Jared Cannonier (-185) vs. Jan Blachowicz (+160)
Julian Marquez (-255) vs. Darren Stewart (+215)
Chad Laprise (-160) vs. Galore Bofando (+140)
Tim Elliott (-260) vs. Pietro Menga (+220)
Abel Trujillo (-220) vs. John Makdessi (+180)
Oluwale Bamgbose (-115) vs. Alessio Di Chirico (-105)
Jordan Mein (-135) vs. Erick Silva (+115)
Nordine Taleb (-150) vs. Danny Roberts (+130)
Thoughts: John Makdessi is your premier underdog pick.
Sure, he’s on a 1-3 stretch, but Trujillo would be 2-3 in his last five but for Gleison Tibau failing a drug test after torching him in 105 seconds. Even Trujillo’s victories were nothing to write home about — Tony Sims was lighting him up before shooting into a guillotine and he gassed badly against Jordan Rinaldi. Makdessi’s jabs, kicks and cardio will keep Trujillo at bay until he starts to gas, at which point things get lopsided.
Jared Cannonier also seems undervalued against Blachowicz. I am fully cognizant that I’m setting myself up for a second helping of foot-in-mouth after the way Blachowicz choked out Devin Clark, but hear me out anyway. Blachowicz took this fight on short notice when he already has a tendency to gas and faces a more powerful and technically adept striker. Cannonier’s got this.
UFC On FOX 26 Odds For The Main Card:
Rafael dos Anjos (-115) vs. Robbie Lawler (-105)
Ricardo Lamas (-275) vs. Josh Emmett (+235)
Santiago Ponzinibbio (-190) vs. Mike Perry (+165)
Misha Cirkunov (-165) vs. Glover Teixeira (+145)
Thoughts: I really wish dos Anjos was still an underdog because I really like this match up for him.
Lawler’s two most glaring flaws — outside the loss to Tyron Woodley — are his tendency to be passive for long stretches of time and his unwillingness to check low kicks. He basically let Johny Hendricks tear his lead leg to bits in their fights and, in my opinion, should have lost his fight with Carlos Condit because of his own lack of urgency. Dos Anjos has some savage leg kicks and a rock-solid chin when he’s not dehydrating himself to death, plus murderous pressure. I truly think he takes this.
