UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson may have headlined the card and been the star of the show at UFC on Fox 8 in Seattle last Saturday, but he wasn’t the highest-paid fighter. In fact, he only ranks in the top five among earners.
The numbers were made official to MMA Weekly by the Washington State Department of Licensing.
In retaining his title, Johnson claimed $58,000 for his fifth-round submission over challenger John Moraga at Saturday’s event at the KeyArena. Moraga pulled in $17,000 for his efforts.
The top salaries on the card are claimed in two instances by former Strikeforce fighters. Robbie Lawler claimed $156,000 in beating Bobby Voelker and Jorge Masvidal earned $66,000 with his submission victory of Michael Chiesa. The other top-paid fighters include Melvin Guillard, who earned $84,000 for besting Mac Danzig and Ed Herman, who claimed $74,000 in his decision victory over Trevor Smith.
