It wasn’t the most exciting flyweight fight your going to see, but we have ourselves a No. 1 contender in the 125-lb. division.
John Dodson earned himself a second-round knockout against Jussier da Silva in a very slow developing fight. Once he found his range, he clipped da Silva several times before finishing him with strikes on the ground.
What we’ll remember from this fight
The ending of the fight is what we will remember. The rest of the fight was nothing to write home about, but Dodson surely gave us a nice knockout to make up for it.
What we learned about Dodson
John Dodson and his good all-around game. He showed great takedown defense and power, especially for a 125-pounder. He is a definite threat to Demetrious Johnson, especially because he has just as much speed, if not more, than Johnson.
What we learned about da Silva
Fighting strikers that can defend his takedowns are going to be a problem for da Silva. His striking looks green, even though his grappling is second-to-none to anyone at flyweight.
What’s next for Dodson
Demetrious Johnson. Plain and simple.
What’s next for da Silva
Jussier da Silva needs to go back to the drawing board. I would give him the loser of John Lineker and Yasuhiro Urushitani at UFC on Fuel 6 in China.
