All eight main-card fighters for Friday night’s UFC on FX 5 card at the Target Center in Minneapolis made weight for their bouts.
That includes the main eventers, heavyweights Travis Browne and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva. The undefeated Browne (13-0-1), who is looking to solidify his spot in the top 10, weighed in at 246 Thursday on the scales at the Pantages Theater. Silva (16-4), who is looking to overcome his brutal UFC 146 loss to Cain Velasquez, came in at 266.
While the main card fighters made weight, there were issues with the undercard. After the weigh-ins, Fuel TV reported that the planned Dennis Hallman vs. Thiago Tavares fight was canceled. MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani said that Hallman was seven pounds overweight. Tavares said he’d take the fight if Hallman could get to three pounds over, but he couldn’t make it. Tavares will make his show money for making weight.
Another undercard fighter missed weight, as veteran featherweight Bart Palaszewski came in at 147 for his bout with Diego Nunes. Palaszewski had an hour to lose the remaining pound or risk forfeiting part of his fight purse.
