Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has released a statement in response to Mike Perry’s involvement in a fight inside a restaurant Wednesday night in Lubbock, Texas. The incident was caught on tape and shows “Platinum” being very abrasive toward his friends, as well as with several people who jumped in the fray. The end result saw one man push Perry, which prompted the hard-hitting Welterweight to knock him out with a single punch.

After seeing the video and gathering information from police reports, UFC issued its first comments and acknowledged that Perry apologized for his behavior. Furthermore, “Platinum” vowed to get substance and behavior counseling.

“UFC is aware and troubled by the video that was released last night concerning Mike Perry. The conduct displayed by Perry is not reflective of that of our organization,” read the statement. “Perry apologized for his behavior and acknowledged he was disappointed with himself that his actions may have reflected poorly on UFC.”

Perry — who was also heard yelling several racial slurs in the video — went on to admit to the promotion that he does have a problem with alcohol, which played a big part in the events that unfolded. As a result of Perry’s commitment to seek professional help, the promotion will not offer him another fight until further notice.

“He further acknowledged that he believes he has some issues related to alcohol abuse and has informed UFC that he has committed to immediately seek professional treatment, including substance and behavioral counseling. At this time, UFC has informed Perry that he will not be offered a bout, and the parties have agreed to evaluate next steps for Perry following the completion of his treatment program.

Police reports revealed what wasn’t caught on tape, which included Perry allegedly striking several other people before the camera started rolling, including one female. The man Perry knocked out had to be taken to the hospital for evaluation and stated he couldn’t recall what happened.

Perry was not arrested on the scene but could still face some type of punishment for his actions, as he will have to answer to a judge in court after being charged with misdemeanor assault.

There is no telling how long Perry will be out for, but it’s safe to assume that he likely won’t fight again in 2020. “Platinum” recently got back on the winning track after defeating Mickey Gall at UFC on ESPN 12 a few weeks ago in Las Vegas, Nevada.
