Chan Sung Jung turned the featherweight division upside down on the weekend rankings-wise.
This past weekend in Greenville, a Zombie showed up and stole the show. Chan Sung Jung took out former top-five featherweight Renato Moicano in under a minute. In doing so, he firmly re-established himself among the contenders at 145, moving up to right on the edge of the top five of this week’s rankings.
In other news, there’s a new number one contender at women’s 135, and a few other changes in those divisions. Everywhere else though? Nada.
Here’s a look at the changes for this week.
P4P – Stipe Miocic is up two to nine. Conor McGregor and Robert Whittaker each fell one spot, to 10 and 11.
Heavyweight – No changes.
Light Heavyweight – No changes.
Middleweight – No changes.
Welterweight – No changes.
Lightweight – No changes.
Featherweight – Big changes, obviously. Zabit Magomedsharipov is up one spot to five. The Zombie is up six spots from 12 to six. Yair Rodriguez is up four spots for some reason as well, to seven. I guess due to his win over KZ. Jeremy Stephens drops one to eight. Moicano is down four to nine. Josh Emmett, Calvin Kattar, and Mirsad Bektic all fell two each and sit between ten and 12. Shane Burgos is down one to 14.
Bantamweight – No changes.
Flyweight – No changes.
Women’s Bantamweight – For whatever reason, there’s a new number one contender and it’s Holly Holm. Must be getting that fight booking boost. Ketlen Vieira is up one to two. Germaine de Randamie apparently isn’t getting the fight booking boost, because she fell from one to three. Sara McMann and Irene Aldana flip-flopped the nine and ten spots.
Women’s Flyweight – Andrea Lee is up three to seven after her impressive win over Montana De La Rosa. Alexis Davis and Jennifer Maia both fell one spot to eight and nine. Lauren Murphy fell two spots to ten.
Women’s Strawweight – Weili Zhang’s title fight booking saw her rise one spot to five, bumping Claudia Gadelha to six. Felice Herrig is up one to 11, bumping Alexa Grasso to 12. Which is ridiculous considering Grasso is coming off the best performance of her career. But who knows what these rankers are thinking. if
