Chad Mendes is firmly back in the mix at featherweight according ot the new UFC rankings.
While UFC 226 flipped the UFC rankings upside down to a degree, UFC Boise didn’t have quite the same effect. When the main event is a returning former champ fighting a guy making his UFC debut, you can be sure that not a lot is going to happen rankings-wise.
But there were a couple of breakthrough performances at featherweight – particularly the return of Chad Mendes. And Liz Carmouche established herself as a contender at women’s flyweight. So without further ado, here are your rankings changes for this week.
P4P – Conor McGregor dropped from a tie for three with Max Holloway to take over the four spot on his own. Tyron Woodley moved up to seven, sending recently-deposed UFC heavyweight champ Stipe Miocic down to eight.
Heavyweight – Dos Santos is up one to seven, passing Mark Hunt.
Light Heavyweight – No changes.
Middleweight – No changes.
Welterweight – No changes.
Lightweight – Nate Diaz dropped from a tie for eight down to nine on his own.
Featherweight – Mendes’ big win over Myles Jury helped him to re-debut on the list at number seven. My guess is that he’ll move up at least one more spot in the coming weeks. The move dropped Mirsad Bektic, Chan Sung Jung, and Renato Moicano all one spot from eight to ten respectively. Alex Volkanovski enters the rankings at 11 after battering Darren Elkins. Ricardo Lamas drops one to 12. Elkins is down three to 13. And Zabit Magomedsharipov is down one to 14. Jury is gone.
Bantamweight – Pedro Munhoz is up one to nine, dropping Cody Stamann to ten. Alejandro Perez’s disputed win over Eddie Wineland moved him up one spot to 12, dropping Thomas Almeida to 13. Douglas Silva de Andrade made the list for the first time at 15.
Flyweight – Dustin Ortiz moved up into a tie for nine with Brandon Moreno.
Women’s Bantamweight – No changes.
Women’s Flyweight – Liz Carmouche’s nice win over Jennifer Maia propelled her up the 125 rankings, going from seven to four. That dropped Roxanne Modafferi, Lauren Murphy, and Katlyn Chookagian down a spot from five to seven respectively. Montana De La Rosa is up one to 14, moving Paige VanZant to the edge of not being ranked.
Women’s Strawweight – No changes.
