UFC Argentina didn’t exactly light the rankings on fire.
The UFC is certainly in a lull right now when it comes to relevant cards. Between PPVs, they have seen late replacement main events and wholly unremarkable cards on paper. That will continue next weekend as the Octagon moves to Shanghai, before picking up big time at UFC 231.
In other words – there’s not much to see here, folks.
Santiago Ponzinibbio’s dominant performance over Neil Magny in the headliner saw him move up a few spots. But the rest of the results barely caused a dent in this week’s rankings update. With that in mind, here’s what happened.
P4P – No changes.
Heavyweight – No changes.
Light Heavyweight – No changes.
Middleweight – No changes.
Welterweight – Kamaru Usman and Robbie Lawler flip-flopped the five and six spots. Ponzinibbio is up three spots to seven after his big win in Argentina. Demian Maia falls one spot to eight. Leon Edwards is up one spot to ten. Magny dropped three spots to 11.
Lightweight – No changes.
Featherweight – Ricardo Lamas is climbing back up a bit, moving up two spots to 11 with his win over Darren Elkins. Yair Rodriguez and Chan Sung Jung both fell one spot each to 12 despite their stellar show in Denver last weekend. Zabit Magomedsharipov moves back up one spot to 14 with Elkins dropping close to the brink at 15.
Banatamweight – Bryan Caraway re-entered the rankings at 14 for some reason. That dropped Douglas Silva de Andrade one spot to 15.
Flyweight – Dustin Ortiz is up one spot to seven, bumping Wilson Reis to eight. The rest is the fluid changes that have been steadily depleting the division as the fighters get released. Magomed Bibulatov is back in at 13. Ulka Sasaki is up one to 14. Ryan Benoit re-enters the rankings at 15.
Women’s Bantamweight – No changes.
Women’s Flyweight – No changes.
Women’s Strawweight – Cynthia Calvillo re-entered the rankings at 13 with her win over the weekend. Randa Markos fell one spot to 14.
