Before Yair Rodriguez fights Alex Caceres this weekend in Salt Lake City, Utah, watch Rodriguez’s sensational jumping kick KO of Andre Fili from UFC 197 in April.
Featherweight prospect Yair Rodriguez will be headlining his first UFC show in just a matter of days, but the Mexican sensation really made his mark on the opening main card bout of UFC 197: Jones vs. Saint Preux on April 23rd against Andre Fili. It was prospect vs. prospect matchmaking with expectation that it would be a thrilling fight, with high chance of a thrilling finish.
I don’t know about you guys, but I think a jumping switch kick KO is a thrilling finish. The fight itself was pretty good, but Rodriguez pulled off something truly spectacular that’s worth your viewing again. Watch the video at the top of the page.
Here’s how Dallas Winston described the end of the fight:
R2: After backing away from a Fili flurry, Rodriguez throws a lead back fist, then launches for what looks like a jumping, switch roundhouse kick. It misses and he loses his balance, but it looks pretty cool. Rodriguez nails a takedown and goes back to work in Fili’s guard, but steps out and away shortly after. No dice on the spinning kick from Rodriguez.
Rodriguez repeats the jumping switch roundhouse kick and, this time, Fili ducks right into his shin, then crumples backwards to the canvas, lying motionless.

Rodriguez will fight Alex Caceres in the main event of UFC Fight Night 92 in Salt Lake City, Utah on Saturday, August 6th on Fox Sports 1.
