Check out the results and highlights of Jessica Andrade vs. Weili Zhang, from UFC Shenzhen.
Shenzhen Universiade Sports Centre in Shenzen, Guangdong Province played host to a historic fight card tonight featuring the first ever Chinese challenger for a UFC title. The main event pitted reigning UFC strawweight champion Jessica Andrade versus Heibei’s Weili Zhang, who was on a 19-fight winning streak.
And the streaking fighter would make it 20-fights (after just 42 seconds of work) to become the first ever UFC champion from China.
In her historic win Zhang was busy from the outset, landing leg kicks and then punches that had Andrade in trouble. Unbelievably, Zhang didn’t let up — with punches, elbows, knees — and Andrade couldn’t survive. The Brazilian stumbled, rocked, and fell. It was all over and Zhang had made history.
Check out Milan Ordonez’s play-by-play from the first round of Jessica Andrade vs. Weili Zhang:
Round 1 – Zhang simply put on a beating on Andrade. She buckled the champion with a left hook and followed up with an elbow from the clinch. She continues to hold that Thai clinch and land hard knee shots. Andrade is hit, unable to recover. Zhang holds onto the clinch to throw more knees. Andrade drops again. Referee stops the fight. Crowd goes wild.
Official result: Weili Zhang def. Jessica Andrade via first-round TKO (0:42 mark)
