The UFC is not done beefing up its UFC 191 pay-per-view card. Or at least trying to.

According to Dominance MMA, Frankie Edgar’s management team, “The Answer” has agreed to fight on the Sept. 5 card, however, the promotion has yet to find a suitable opponent for him. Edgar, who was hoping to fight for the featherweight title next, is open to the idea of competing on the Labor Day card, if the right opponent presents itself. Edgar’s chances of landing on the card were currently slotted at 50 percent by one source with knowledge of the situation. If he can’t get a fight at UFC 191, Edgar would like to fight at UFC 192 in Houston the following month.

UFC also inquired about booking Alistair Overeem on Sept. 5, according to sources, however, after not being able to find an opponent for him it appears as though Overeem will wait until Junior dos Santos is ready to return later this year.

As of right now, UFC 191 is headlined by Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson 2 for the flyweight title, Anthony Johnson vs. Jan Blachowicz, Paige VanZant vs. Alex Chambers and John Lineker vs. Francisco Rivera.

Prior to settling on Johnson vs. Dodson 2 as the UFC 191 main event, the promotion looked into booking Daniel Cormier vs. Alexander Gustafsson, Chris Weidman vs. Luke Rockhold and even Fabricio Werdum’s first heavyweight title defense, but those fights did not materialize due to various scheduling conflicts.
