In the main event of UFC Tampa, Joanna Jedrzejczyk’s superior striking was too much for Michelle Waterson.
Joanna Jedrzejczyk put on a one-sided striking display in the main event of UFC Tampa, defeating Michelle Waterson by unanimous decision (50-45, 50-45. 49-46)
What was the high point of the fight?
It was clear after the opening two rounds this was going to be an easy night for Jedrzejczyk, she constantly had Waterson on the backfoot, pushing up her against the fence and landing good elbows and knees.
Despite not troubling Jedrzejczyk or landing anything significant, Waterson held on strong in the later rounds taking huge knees and draining low kicks from the former strawweight champion. Jedrzejczyk finished the fight by landing hard knees in the clinch followed by a trip takedown.
Where do these two go from here?
Jedrzejczyk said that from the end of the second round and early on jn the third round, she was fighting with a broken foot. The win is her first since July 2018, and realistically will be enough to get her a title shot against Weili Zhang next.
The loss snaps a three-fight winning steak for Waterson, who before this loss had won decisions against Karolina Kowalkiewicz, Felice Herrig and Cortney Casey. Maybe a rematch against former title holder Rose Namajunas makes sense next for Waterson.
Watch it now, later, or never?
It was a great display of striking from Jedrzejczyk, watch it now.
