Live, blow-by-blow updates for Saturday’s UFC event in Uruguay, with a women’s flyweight title fight between Valentina Shevchenko and Liz Carmouche.

Saturday’s main event boasts a rematch nine years in the making as Shevchenko looks to avenge a loss to Carmouche and defend her women’s flyweight title in one fell swoop. The co-main event is a near-guaranteed firefight between heavy-hitting technical brawlers Vicente Luque and Mike Perry. Speaking of heavy hitters, the long-delayed light-heavyweight fight between Volkan Oezdemir and Ilir Latifi will also take place.
Main card action begins on ESPN+ at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT. The preliminary card also streams on ESPN+ at 5 PM ET/2 PM PT. Play-by-play will only be provided for the main card.
The main card is as follows:
Main Card (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, ESPN+)
Valentina Shevchenko (c) def. Liz Carmouche by unanimous decision (50-45 x3)
Round 1 – Both fighters trade leg kicks but neither land. Shevchenko takes the center. A stiff jab stifles Carmouche’s forward pressure. Carmouche whiffs on a leg kick and a head kick. Shevchenko slides in and throws a combination before backing out. Outside leg kick lands for Shevchenko. A stiff inside leg kick for Carmouche. Both fighters are very patient. Shevchenko throws a few punches that miss but lands a leg kick. A spinning kick to the ribs misses for Shevchenko. A very slow first round with 90-seconds left. Body kick lands for Carmouche. Leg kick for Shevchenko. The crowd is starting to get restless. Can I give both fighters zeroes? 10-9 Shevchenko (I guess).
Round 2 – Shevchenko lands a nice jab. Front kick lands for the champ. Shevchenko starts to back Carmouche up against the cage. She throws a combo but Carmouche slips away. Carmouche lunges forward with a sneaky leg hook trip takedown but hits the wall that his Shevchenko. Easy stuff. A leg kick lands for Carmouche. A technical combo for Shevchenko is puncuated with a leg kick. A one-two followed by a leg kick for “The Bullet”. 40-seconds left in round two. Round over. Crowd boos. 10-9 Shevchenko (20-18 Shevchenko)
Round 3 – A leg kick for Carmouche to start round three. Inside leg kick for Carmouche. Straight right lands for Shevchenko. A nice combinationcombination floors Carmouche but not much else. Carmouche initiates a striking exchange and Shevchenko gets the body lock. A nice twisting body lock takedown gets Carmouche to the floor. 10-9 Shevchenko (30-27 Shevchenko).
Round 4 – Another slow round to start. Shevchenko presses forward with a nice superman punch followed by a combination. Very slick. The two engage close. Carmouche slips and Shevchenko takes advantage of the situation. Camouche uses the rubber guard to get mission control. Shevchenko continues to press her opponent against the cage. Referee Keith Peterson stands the fighters. Wow! Carmouche comes forward and Shevchenko paints her with a spinning back fist. Carmouche drops and turtles up. She holds onto Shevchenko’s arm to prevent her from striking. Shevchenko gets the back and sinks in the rear-naked choke. She uses the position to pull Carmouche to her back and attain side control. 10-seconds left. Shevchenko seems content to hold the position. 10-9 Shevchenko. (40-36 Shevchenko)
Round 5 – Carmouche opens with leg kicks and failed body kicks. Another leg kick lands for Carmouche. Shevchenko slides away from a leg kick and lands one of her own. Shevchenko charges in with a combo but Carmouche blocks and moves away. Carmouche tries to grab Shevchenko’s leg off a push kick. Carmouche is deep on the leg but Shevchenko sprawls heavy and pries her leg away. Carmouche rolls through and gets full guard. She immediately has an overhook but the champion does a good job of keeping Carmouche flat on her back. The ref calls for more action. Shevchenko continues to grind into Carmouche but throws almost nothing. A nice elbow from Shevchenko. Carmouche tries to use the wall to get up. Shevchenko stifles her and advances to half guard. One-minute left in the round. Nice shoulder strikes from Shevchenko. Now the champ is just smacking Carmouche with open palms. 10-seconds left. Shevchenko postures up and throws hammer fists. Carmouche gets her feet in the way. Shevchenko stands up and walks away from her opponent before the round even ends. 10-9 Shevchenko (50-45 Shevchenko).
Vicente Luque def. Mike Perry by split decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28)
Round 1 – Here we go with what is arguably the most anticipated fight on the card. Luque with immediate forward pressure. Luque throws a one-two. Perry responds with a right hook that Luque ducks. Perry lands a big shot on Luque’s chin. Luque with a crisp jab. Another looping right lands for Perry. A nice step-in left hook by Perry but Luque gets his hand up. Inside leg kick lands for Perry. Luque lands a nice right straight followed by a leg kick. Perry throws a wide shot and Luque makes him pay with a two-punch combo. A huge kick to the body by Perry followed by a head kick that gets blocked. Perry is looking fast. Outside leg kick by Luque. The Brazilian native stifles Perry’s strike with another stiff jab. Luque’s nose is really red. A heavy body shot lands for Perry. Luque is the one pressing forward but Perry is definitely throwing the more energy-expending strikes. A jumping switch knee lands clean for Luque! A couple more leg kicks for Luque. They trade jabs. Both fighters implementing a diverse striking game. Perry throws a heavy three-punch combo but Luque blocks and slips in his own punch in the middle. Perry dips low and gets brushed by Luque’s knee. A big cut opens on the bottom corner of Perry’s left eye. Perry opens up with a five huge alternating hooks. A few of them land and Luque is on the back pedal. Luque manages to circle off the fence and settle in the middle. Competitive first round. 10-9 Luque.
Round 2 – Luque misses with a knee, but he lands some nice leg kicks. Perry storms Luque and gets him to the fence. Perry lands some really nice knees to Luque’s thigh. A nice one-two partially lands for Perry. Back to the center we go. Luque immediately with forward pressure. Perry dips his head and Luque lands a head kick. A second head kick lands for Perry. Both men land in an exchange. Perry’s back is against the cage. They both land huge left hooks. You could hear the thud. Perry uses a heavy jab to set up a looping right hook to the body. Perry lands a couple jabs and throws a mean left hook. Both men are bruised and busted. A massive right uppercut breaks through Luque’s guard! Perry swarms with big punches. Luque throws an elbow that keeps Perry at bay. Luque circles around and gets Perry against the cage. Luque lands a couple big shots on Perry. I think Perry’s blood just sprinkled onto the camera lens. Gross? Both men are throwing dangerous shots in the pocket. They’re both eating big punches. Luque lands a leg kick that unsteadies Perry. Luque is constantly controlling the center. Perry lands but Luque lands harder. A looping right uppercut for Perry but Luque blocks. Lots of blood on Perry’s face. 10-9 Perry.
Round 3 – This fight could go either way. Luque immediately takes control of the Octagon. Perry throws a leg kick, Luque throws a head kick but neither land. Perry with a nice step-in knee to the body. Stiff jab from Perry. Nice leg kick by Luque. Jab by Perry. Leg kick from Luque. What else is new. A jab and a leg kick from Luque now. Multiple leg kicks by Luque. Nice left cross by Perry. The American has a high single leg but Luque fights it off. Perry has the Brazilian fighter against the cage. More big knees to the leg by Perry. The crowd boos the stalemate against the cage. Phenominal! Mike Perry just flipped the bird at the Uruguay crowd. The referee eventually separates things. A nice jab to leg kick by Luque. Huge leaping knee lands for Luque but Perry uses it to get a takedown. Luque has Perry in a guillotine. The blood is pouring from Perry’s head. Perry is trying to punch the body. Luque is literally juicing Perry’s head. Perry is throwing more and more punches at Luque’s body. Perry slips out. There is so much blood on both men. 10 seconds left. Perry starts opening up with ground-and-pound, but backs out and raises his hands to end the fight. Holy heck, Perry’s nose is badly broken! it was from Luque’s flying knee. I was about to score the round for Perry, but that nose is so badly broken. 10-9 Luque.
Luiz Eduardo Garagorri def. Humberto Bandenay by unanimous decision (30-27 x3)
Round 1 – An absolutely explosive cheer from the audience for Garagorri. A touch of the gloves gets us started. Lots of stance switching from Garagorri. He throws a head-kick that Bandenay blocks. A stiff leg kick from Garagorri. A switch to southpaw for Garagorri and he lands a nice left, but Bandenay scores a good double leg. He is keeping very pressure on Garagorri. The two men are against the cage. Garagorri lands some illegal elbows to the back of the head but the referee does not so much as blink. Bandenay heavy with pressure but Garagorri manages to get to his feet. Both men make their way to the center but they’re still in a clinch. Garagorri lands a nice throw and eventually settles into halfguard. He stands to up and moves back. The referee calls for a stand up. Another nice leg kick by Garagorri. He whiffs on a spinning kick to the body. A right uppercut to the body followed by a looping left hook wobbles Bandenay. Bandenay instinctively goes to his wrestling and gets Garagorri down. He takes his back! Garagorri manages to square up and Bandenay jumps guard. Garagorri keeps his balance and eventually both men plant their feet. In striking range, Garagorri lands a nice shot. Bandenay with a knee to the body but Garagorri throws so many shots I can’t count the combo. Bandenay got caught with a few of them but he smirks at his opponent. A lot of swelling is forming around the right eye of Bandenay. The round ends with Garagorri’s back pressed against the fence. 10-9 Garagorri.
Round 2 – Garagorri is looking really loose which allows him to land a heavy kick to Bandenay’s lead leg. A body kick lands for Garagorri. Another snapping leg kick. Bandenay throws a head kick but it misses. Bandenay clocks Garagorri and it stuns him. Bandenay opens up and lands a clean knee to the face. Garagorri fires back with his own combo that stifles Bandenay. The two fighters briefly stop and high-five to acknowledge each man’s good work. Three minutes left. Garagorri rushes forward and lands a three-punch combo to the body and head. Garagorri is bleeding under the left eye. Bandenay with a nice shot. Garagorri returns fire. Garagorri gets Bandenay against the cage this time. Bandenay has his fingers hooked in the fence. It seems like the referee noticed it and separated the two men. Back to center. Garagorri with a big liver shot. Garagorri falls short on another spinning kick. A left punch lands for Garagorri. Inside leg kick this time from Garagorri. The two exchange positions against the cage before Bandenay settles with double underhooks. Garagorri reverses position and lands a big elbow on the break. Garagorri puts on the pressure landing punches. Bandenay sneaks in a stiff counter punch that slows things down. Bandenay drives Garagorri across the Octagon and dumps him to end the round. 10-9 Garagorri (20-18 Garagaorri)
Round 3 – A big right straight lands for Garagorri. Bandenay fires back. Garagorri initiates a clinch but Bandenay reverses the position and gets the takedown. Garagorri tries to grab the fence on the way down. It also seemed like he grabbed Bandenay’s shorts at some point. Garagorri with more illegal elbows to the back of his opponent’s head. Bandenay starts working to the back but Garagorri gets up. They’re working against the clinch but the referee separates them. Garagorri lands a counter hook as Bandenay rushes forward. Garagorri is throwing the tighter punches. Bandenay rushes him against the cage. A nice four punch combination partially lands for Garagorri. Garagorri stuffs the takedown and lands a stiff left hook on the exit. Both men swinging with 10-seconds left. 10-9 Garagorri (30-27 Garagorri)
Volkan Oezdemir def. Ilir Latifi by knockout (punches) at 4:31 of round 2
Round 1 – The fighters high-five, how pleasant. Oezdemir lands a nice leg kick. A second leg kick slaps Latifi’s leg. A heavy lift lands for Oezdemir followed by a knee. Latifi fires back but Oezdemir has already ran to the other side of the cage. Another great leg lick for Oezdemir. Latifi grabs a leg, picks Oezdemir up and dumps him down. Latifi lands in side control but Oezdemir uses the cage to get back to his feet. A welt is visible under the right eye of Latifi. The handsome horseman lands a big punch on Oezdemir. “No Time” fires back with a great flying knee that lands. Latifi eats it. Latifi looks to grab a leg and eats another knee for his efforts. Latifi presses Oezdemir against the cage. Oezdemir lands a couple shoulder shrugs as well as an elbow. Back to the center we go. Another heavy leg kick lands for Oezdemir. Latifi whiffs on a one-two combo. Latifi slides his head just out the way of another one-two flying knee. A great uppecut lands for Oezdemir on the counter. Latifi throws some bludgeoning shots that partially land. Oezdemir stuffs a takedown attempt. Oezdemir is outstriking Latifi 30-4 with 30 seconds left. The two men bump fists to end the round. The combined impact sends ripples through the arena and trigges an earthquake. 10-9 Oezdemir.
Round 2 – Oezdemir is doing a good job of landing shots and getting out of range before the shorter man returns. A nice left lands for Latifi. Oezdemir keeps Latifi at the end of his jab. A left hand lands for Oezdemir. Latifi partially lands with alternating hooks. A sneaky knee drops Latifi! Latifi gets to his feet in the scramble and eats a HARD left hook. Oezdemir gets the clinch and starts landing elbows and knees. A big right straight clocks Latifi. Latifi looks at the clock and gets fed two consecutive elbows. A big right uppercut lands for Oezdemir. Latifi is struggling to breathe. He looks slow, he looks hurt and he looks tired. 53-8 strikes in Oezdemir’s favor. Latifi lands a decent jab. A calf-kick by Oezdemir freezes Latifi. Oezdemir eats a right hook but returns a left hook that drops Latifi. Two left hands from Oezdemir has Latifi face-planting. Game over for Latifi.
Rodolfo Vieira def. Oskar Piechota by submission (arm triangle) at 4:26 of round 2
Round 1 – Vieira opens up with a nice punch. Both fighters are taking their time but Vieira lands a stiff jab. Vieira grabs a single leg. He almost gets Piechota down but Piechota sprawls and gets to his feet. Vieira backs Piechota to the fence and scores a double leg. Piechota has the butterfly hooks. Vieira is not letting Piechota to his feet but he also can’t get past his opponent’s legs. From standing, Vieira drops on top of Piechota and his legs wrapped for a moment. Piechota is crunched up against the fence but those butterflies are preventing the grappling ace from settling into a dominant position. Piechota gets up off an up-kick. Vieira shoots for a double leg but Piechota spreads his base and lands some sharp elbows to the side of Vieira’s head. 10-9 Vieira.
Round 2 – A nice straight lands for Vieira. Piechota with a jab and later with a solid overhand right. Vieira lands a jab but Piechota scores a nice right hook. Vieira goes for the takedown but Piechota blocks it. He grabs Vieira’s neck briefly before landing an uppercut on the way up. Vieira barrels Piechota over with a double leg as Piechota tries to close the distance. Vieira is using a lot of nice pressure from half-guard top to work a pass. Piechota shows of his own grappling prowess by sweeping Vieira! Back to standing we go. Not too fast, Vieira instantly initiates a grappling exchange that leaves Piechota’s back against the fence. Vieira lands another takedown by the cage. Some nice ground-and-pound by Vieira. The Brazilian gets on Piechota’s back for a moment, but Piechota does the rational thing and flops to his back. Vieira gets to mount and immediately snatches a head-and-arm choke. Piechota’s resists but the end is near. That’s it, Piechota taps out.
Enrique Barzola def. Bobby Moffett by split decision (28-29, 30-27, 29-28)
Round 1 – A touch of the gloves to get us started. Each man taking a moment to feel the other out. Barzola with a nice body kick and Moffett follows up. Moffett with a variety of kicks to the leg and to the head. Very little read on those. Barzola partially lands with a big leaping superman punch. Moffett uses head movement to get in range for a straight right and a kick. Barzola lands with a combination of his own. Moffett counters a jab with a right hook over the shoulder. Barzola increases the forward pressure but Moffett is right there countering. Moffett is doing a great job of moving away from Barzola’s power strikes, landing counter punches and finishing with a kick. A nice head-kick from Moffett but it’s blocked. Moffett with a pair of body kicks. A nice right hand snaps Barzola’s head back during an exchange. Barzola pressres forward and lands a late double leg. Moffett makes his way to the feet and lands one final strike to conclude the round. 10-9 Moffett.
Round 2 – Barzola uses strikes to close the distance and shoots for takedown. Moffett stuffs it. Barzola looks for a single leg but nothing on it. Moffett gets a slick standing back take and drives Barzola to the fence. Barzola turns in and creates separation. Barzola opens up with long combinations and Moffett gets caught with a few good punches. Barzola gets Moffett’s back to the fence and lands a few more shots. Some redness on Moffett’s face. A nice uppercut from Moffett cuts through Barzola’s wide punches. A takedown attemp by Moffett but Barzola gets away. They exchange jabs. Barzola gets caught low with a kick. Barzola lands a nice leaping left hook. A leg kick messes with Barzola’s balance. Barzola backs up Moffett and the both men land. Now Moffett has Barzola backed up and is piecing him up with combinations. Another late double leg by Barzola gets Moffett down but Moffett gets right up. Ooh, it looked like Barzola got him with a nice punch right at the end. 10-9 Barzola. (19-19 even)
Round 3 – Moffett lands a nice combination punctuated with a head-kick. Barzola lands two good shots that backs Moffett up. Barzola fights for a takedown but Moffett grabs the fence. The referee slaps his hand away. Moffett reverses the position and peppers punches against the cage. Both men return to the center. Barzola lands a crisp combination. Moffett whiffs with a big overhand right. A spinning back-fist lands for Barzola. A right-hand from Moffett slows Barzola’s roll. Another right hand lands for Moffett. Barzola rushes forward with three power shots. The striking differential across all three rounds is within one or two strikes thus far. Nice jabs from Moffett keep Barzola at bay. Both men are opening up. Barzola looks for another late double leg takedown and he get. Moffett to his feet, just like rounds one and two. Ultra close fight. I think you could argue 10-10 rounds in two and three, but I’ll go 10-9 Moffett (29-28 Moffett).
