Check out which fighters won performance bonuses from UFC Fight Night: Covington vs. Woodley
The UFC APEX Center in Las Vegas, Nevada was home to a great night of fights at UFC Fight Night: Covington vs. Woodley. The card saw six (T)KOs, four submissions and four decisions, including two split-decisions and a majority draw.
The preliminary card opened with Tyson Nam scoring an early round 2 TKO of Jerome Rivera to kick off the night’s action. That was followed up by a split-decision win for Andre Ewell over Irwin Rivera. Randy Costa scored the upset over Journey Newson with a 41-second head kick knockout and from there, we were treated to another upset, this time it would be Darrick Minner snagging a guillotine choke on T.J. Laramie. It took Minner just 52-seconds to get the job done. Jessica Rose Clark scored a third-round TKO of Sarah Alpar late in round three after a controversial knee resulted in some weird reffing. Myra Bueno Silva scored a quick armbar finish of Mara Romero Borella, constituting Borella’s fourth-straight loss. Late replacement Damon Jackson scored the upset when he locked a third-round guillotine on Mirsad Bektic and David Dvorak outclassed Jordin Espinoza via unanimous decision.
The main card opened with a battle between Kevin Holland and Darren Stewart, ending with Holland taking the split-decision win. That was followed up by Mackenzie Dern teaching Randa Markos a valuable lesson—never go to the ground with Mackenzie Dern. Markos was submitted via armbar late in the first round. Johnny Walker needed just 2:43 of round 1 to get back in the win column after he ended Ryan Spann’s night with a TKO. Khamzat Chimaev needed just 17-seconds to land a kick and a brick to the face of Gerald Meerschaert, getting his third-straight knockout inside the octagon bringing his record to 9-0. Donald Cerrone and Niko Price battled to the final horn, garnering a majority draw.
The main event saw Colby Covington best Tyron Woodley for the majority of the fight then finish him in the fifth via rib injury after posting up atop the former champion and battering him with a barrage of punches. It was a fight that happened.
