On the UFC Vegas 11 main card, Khamzat Chimaev made quick work of Gerald Meerschaert, plus Mackenzie Dern and Johnny Walker also earned first-round finishes.
The UFC Vegas 11 main card is thundering right along and boisterous middleweight prospect, Khamzat Chimaev, just knocked out longtime UFC veteran, Gerald Meerschaert, with one punch in just 17-seconds. Chimaev threw a body kick and then pawed with a few jabs before landing as laser right hand to the jaw to put Gerald to sleep. What a scary performance from a motivated and undefeated up and comer. Demian Maia might be in some serious trouble against someone who seems to be a terrifying combination of Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Before that, the UFC’s #11 ranked light heavyweight, Johnny Walker, overcame being dropped twice to finish Ryan Spann inside of the opening round. What a wild ride this was! Spann wasn’t doing too bad until he dove on a takedown and was met with a brutal barrage of elbows & hammerfists. That’s where the fight came to an end. This was a must-win for Walker, who was coming off of consecutive losses and who is still trying to find himself as a fighter.
Also on the main card, the company’s #15 rated strawweight, Mackenzie Dern, hit a brilliant first-round armbar on Randa Markos. Dern had a methodical step-by-step approach to setting up the hold, and then made all the proper adjustment to find the tap. Dern has now hit back to back first-round submissions in her last two fights, and proves to be a serious threat at 115-pounds.
Opening up the main card, Kevin Holland squeaked by Darren Stewart with a split decision victory, despite fading late in the fight. Holland found early success with his strikes in the first-two rounds, and survived some late ground and pound to get the win. This makes three-straight victories for Holland, who in his post-fight interview offered to replace Demian Maia if he pulls out with a potential matchup with Khamzat Chimaev.

Johnny Walker def. Ryan Spann by TKO at 2:43 of round 1: Light Heavyweight
Spann closed the distance to get things going and shoved Walker against the cage. Quite a bit of time went by before Walker was able to get free. Spann clipped his foe with a left hook and took top position, but Walker quickly scrambled back to his feet. Spann dropped him again with right hand, but Walker recovered really quickly. Spann shot in for a takedown, but Walker defended with a ton of elbows and hammerfists. He pounded away until the referee pulled him off.

Mackenzie Dern def. Randa Markos by submission (Armbar) at 3:44 of round 1: Strawweight
Things got underway quickly when Dern slipped on a kick and Markos took top position. Dern quickly attacked with a triangle attempt, but Markos remained calm. Dern switched to an omoplata to take top position, and then methodically attacked an armbar. Markos fought the hold for a moment, but Dern was just too skilled and sniffed out the submission.

Kevin Holland def. Darren Stewart by split decision (29-28 x2, 28-29): Middleweight
The middleweights collided in the center of the Octagon and clinched up. An accidental knee to the cup of Holland brought a pause to the action. The bout quickly got back underway and Holland started using his kicks. Stewart started swing back with haymakers and a brawl broke out, with neither man landing totally flush but still connecting. Holland then shoved his foe against the fence, while both men took a little breather. The fight went back to open space and Stewart shot in for a takedown, but Holland defended well and remained vertical.
The second round saw Stewart catch a kick to put Holland on his back. He stood over his foe and threw random strikes at Holland’s foot. The referee brought the bout back to its feet and the fighters took turns throwing leg kicks. Holland ended up shooting in, but Stewart sprawled and made his opponent stand back up. Towards the end of the round, Holland scarped with a flurry that involved a couple of hard knees from the clinch.
Stewart got himself an early takedown in the final frame, but Holland was able to scramble back up. Stewart stayed attached and they began to scramble. They jockeyed for position against the cage for a bit, with Stewart spending some time with his back on the chain links. Back in open space, it was Holland landing the straight punches before the fight returned to the clinch. Stewart hit a late takedown and landed some punches from the top, as Holland scored with elbows from his back. The round ended with Stewart dropping elbows and talking trash to the talkative Holland.
