UFC Vegas 17 results: Font stuns Moraes by TKO, Tybura pounds out Hardy

On the UFC Vegas 17 main card, Rob Font brutally knocked out Marlon Moraes, and Marcin Tybura TKO’d Greg Hardy.

The UFC VEGAS 17 main card is underway and it started with back to back finishes before Michel Pereira and Khaos Williams went the distance. That bout wasn’t as explosive as it appeared on paper, and when the dust settled it was Pereira who walked away with the unanimous decision. Pereira was a lot more reserved than his previous outings, and saved a lot of his antics for the final round. In his post-fight interview, he called for a fight with Anthony Pettis. It should be noted that earlier on the prelims, Pettis already expressed his want to move back down to 155-pounds.

Before that, the UFC’s #11 rated bantamweight, Rob Font, brutally knocked out the #3 ranked, Marlon Moraes, in the first-round. It was the boxing, specifically the jab, of Font that had Marlon on skates, and then it was the ground and pound that put Moraes out cold. The referee could have stopped this one a lot sooner than he did, but nonetheless it’s a huge win for Font and should catapult him towards the top of the division.

Opening up the main card, Marcin Tybura realized a takedown in the second-round and pounded on Greg Hardy until the referee stopped the fight. Hardy got the better of the striking in the opening round, but all it took was one takedown for Tybura to get the finish. The world may be having a subpar year, but this makes four-straight wins for Marcin in 2020!

Main card:

Michel Pereira def. Khaos Williams by unanimous decision (29-28 x3): Welterweight

Williams kept his eye on Pereira during his entire walk to the Octagon. The fight began with both men giving the other man ample space. They would periodically come together in a collision, but neither man was able to take over. Khaos was controlling the center of the Octagon with Pereira playing the outside. Pereira was throwing a lot of kicks while Khaos was trying to land one big punch.

More sticky kickboxing went on in the seocnd act. Whenever someone would land, they would quickly return to their defensive stance as to not be open for a counter. Williams was the one that was scoring with more volume, as Pereira was doing more moving than he was striking. They clinched up against the cage towards the end of the round, where Pereira landed some hard knees to the body. Pereira also dove on an RNC attempt at the bell.

The final round saw a lot more antics from Pereira. He was throwing funky kicks and doing silly movements. Williams stayed composed and landed his punches when he saw his opportunities. With just over 90-seconds left in the fight, Pereira snagged himself a takedown. Williams worked back to his feet where the fighters exchanged strikes. Pereira went back to the takedown and closed out the round dropping strikes.

Rob Font def. Marlon Moraes by KO at 3:47 of round 1: Bantamweight

Moraes was quick to change levels and earn a takedown. Font scrambled back up after Marlon botched a guillotine, but Moraes went right back to the takedown. This time, Moraes locked down the top position from half guard. Back on the feet, Font began to connect with his hands. He had Moraes in all sorts of trouble before dropping him with an uppercut. Font pounced with ground strikes, putting Moraes out as the referee stepped in a bit tardy. Yikes!

Marcin Tybura def. Greg Hardy by TKO at 4:31 of round 2: Heavyweight

Tybura came out giving his opponent a lot of different looks. He was switching stances and throwing from both sides. Hardy sat back looking to counter as Tybura came forward. Hardy got aggressive and landed a flush flurry of punches. He stayed with it, connecting with several more clean punches. It was a strong round for Hardy.

Tybura pressed forward in the second round, biting down and throwing heavy punches at Hardy. He was still getting hit, but at least he was scoring too. Tybura closed the distance and was able to put Hardy on the floor. He started to punch away as Hardy just covered up. The referee gave Hardy every chance to improve his position, or at least intelligently defend himself. Hardy did not so the fight was stopped.
