UFC Vegas 34 odds: Cannonier slightly favored over Gastelum

It’s fight day for UFC Vegas 34, which kicks off tonight (August 21st) from the promotion’s APEX facility in Las Vegas, Nevada. Top-10 middleweights will grace the main event when the, #3 ranked, Jared Cannonier, meets the #9 ranked, Kelvin Gastelum. The oddsmakers like them some Cannonier over Gastelum here, but not by a great deal. Jared’s straight up moneyline is positioned around the -140 mark, with a $100 wager potentially winning you a grand total of $171.43. As for Kelvin, he is posted up with a slim underdog value of +120, with a successful $100 bet on him bringing back a total bounty of $220. Both men are looking to rebound after lopsided losses to former, middleweight champ, Robert Whittaker. Jared has still won three of his last four, however Kelvin has lost four of his last five. Cannonier should definitely be favored here.

It looks like the bookies aren’t too sure about whether or not this 25-minute main event will be lasting all-five rounds. The prop bet ‘Fight doesn’t go to decision’ holds a favored line of -132, but the ‘Fight goes to decision’ option can be found anywhere from -110 up to +104. Cannonier is known for knocking out his opposition, or at least trying to. The problem with that is the fact that Kelvin is damn near impossible to club unconscious. How many times did Israel Adesanya drop him in their fight? Tough is an understatement when talking about Gastelum. As for Cannonier’s durability, we’ve only seen him get finished by much larger competition up at light heavyweight and heavyweight. His chin has held up at 185-pounds, so don’t be too surprised if this one goes the distance.

According to the numbers, Jared has been the fighter listed as the one most likely to manifest a finish. The exotic bet ‘Cannonier wins inside distance’ is trending with a small dog tag of +150, with ‘Gastelum wins inside distance’ hanging out at a much more lucrative line of +400. A common over/under prop bet for this UFC Vegas 34 main event has been set at 3.5 rounds. The ‘Over 3.5 rounds’ is favored at -134, with a +100 comeback on ‘Under 3.5 rounds.’
