Aleksandar Rakic just dominated Anthony Smith for three-rounds in the UFC Vegas 8 main event.
The UFC Vegas 8 main card has just ended and the main event saw the UFC’s #8 ranked light heavyweight, Aleksandar Rakic, take a dominant unanimous decision over the #5 ranked, Anthony Smith. Rakic did damage early with some heavy leg kicks, and then owned the ground game from there on out. After that tough split decision loss to Volkan Oezdemir, Rakic just bounced back in dominant fashion, showing that he is back and really is a legitimate threat to the vacant belt at 205-pounds.
The fighters came out and swapped leg kicks to get things going. The harder ones came from those thrown by Rakic, even causing Smith to buckle. Rakic took top position, and Smith was able to reverse it, but Rakic took it right back. The top was controlled by Rakic, but he wasn’t dishing out any damage with the position.
Rakic went right back to his kicks in the second round, but Smith was able to close the distance behind a big right hand. Smith spent a lot of time with Rakic on top of him. Rakic wasn’t exactly pouring on the punishment, but he was doing enough to avoid a standup. Rakic opened the final round with a stinging leg kick, and then went high with a head kick. Smith clinched up but ended right back on the floor again. Rakic forced Smith to carry his weight for the rest of the round, chipping away with knees to the thigh and body.
Aleksandar Rakic def. Anthony Smith by unanimous decision (30-26, 30-27 x2): Light Heavyweight
UNRELENTING.
