UFC veteran Mikey Burnett was shot three times last night in what police are calling an attempted armed robbery.
MMA veteran Mikey Burnett, and his son Freddie, were shot in a busy parking lot last night after leaving a nearby a gym. The attack, which police suspect was an attempted robbery, was carried out by two individuals and occurred at around 7:30 p.m. local time.
Mikey ‘The Eastside Assassin’ Burnett suffered three gunshot wounds to his abdomen and was taken to hospital for surgery. His son was shot once in the leg. Both men are expected to survive their injuries.
A product of Ken Shamrock’s fabled Lion’s Den, Mikey Burnett fought three times in the UFC between 1998 and 1999. Burnett defeated Eugenio Tadeau by TKO at UFC 16 and won a unanimous decision versus Townsend Saunders at UFC 18.
Between those bouts Burnett faced Pat Miletich for the UFC welterweight title at UFC Brazil (the promotion’s first ever event in Brazil). Burnett lost that fight via split decision.
In 2006 Burnett appeared as a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter 4: The Comeback.
Hours ago Tulsa police questioned four suspects in connection with the shooting. Two have since been released.
