Leon Edwards extended his UFC winning streak to 8 with a unanimous decison victory over Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC Sa Antonio
Leon Edwards defeated Rafael Dos Anjos by one-sided unanimous decision in the main event of UFC San Antonio to prove himself as a legitimate contender for the welterweight title.
What was the high point of the fight?
Edwards started off the fight by not touching gloves, and he quickly went to work landing combinations on Dos Anjos early before trying to work the Brazilian on the ground. ‘RDA’ improved in the second round by not giving up the takedown as easy and instead landing elbows on the ground of his own.
In the later rounds, Edwards did a good job of wearing down ‘RDA’ with bodylock takedowns and his accurate striking. Dos Anjos offered little in the striking department and come the fifth round it was too late for the Brazilian to pressure ‘Rocky’.
Where do these two go from here?
Edwards said he wants one more fight before the end of the year, and “Rocky” wants it to be to against the ‘little weasel’ Jorge Masvidal, who Edwards had a run-in with after UFC London in March of this year, or a rematch against current welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, who was the last man to beat Edwards back in late 2015.
After losing straight fights against Usman and Colby Covington, ‘RDA’ looked like he was reviving his welterweight career with a win over Kevin Lee, but this loss against Edwards is now another backstep for the Brazilian. Maybe a fight against Ben Askren is a good one to make next for Dos Anjos.
