Tyron Woodley is open to a boxing fight against Andre Ward.
Conor McGregor’s historic boxing match against Floyd Mayweather Jr. has opened the floodgates for a plethora of other MMA fighters wanting to test their skills in the squared circle.
UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, former featherweight champ Jose Aldo, and now, welterweight champ Tyron Woodley are all interested in lacing up the gloves in the boxing ring.
Speaking to TMZ in a recent interview, ‘T-Wood’ said he would be willing to fight two-weight boxing world champ Andre Ward for the right price.
“I would love to box but I don’t know if there’s an opportunity that’s gonna present itself. The only person I’d be interested in boxing would have to be one of the best of the best. It would have to be like, Andre Ward,” Woodley said when probed by reporters.
Woodley, who recently defended his welterweight title against Demian Maia, considers Ward a friend but wouldn’t hesitate to step into the ring to throw down.
“I would rather train with Andre Ward – he’s a friend of mine and we’ve been talking about training for a while but if it was an opportunity to make some money I can’t see Andre or myself turning that down.”
Woodley, 35, captured the UFC welterweight title in 2016 and has gone on to defend it against Stephen Thompson and Maia. ‘The Chosen One’ has a wrestling pedigree but is known for his heavy hands and knockout power. Woodley knocked out then-champ Robbie Lawler with a vicious overhand at UFC 201 and has proved to one of the most well-rounded champions on the roster.
McGregor, the UFC lightweight champ, put up a good fight against Mayweather but succumbed to a barrage of punches in the 10th round.
