Press Release – Universal Combat Championship Returns Next Thursday With UCC5: Unleashed

Next Thursday at the Teaneck Armory Arena, Universal Combat Championship returns with its first show of the year. UCC5: Unleashed will feature some of the fastest growing stars in MMA—including fighters from the UFC, Bellator and past WEC champions.

Since their launch in 2008, the UCC has quickly grown into the one of the most prevalent MMA organizations in the Northeast.

“I think outside of making the shows a success to continue with more shows, we strive to build relationships with fight teams, coaches and fighters to help our organization grow,” said Chris Sblendorio, President of the UCC. “So far we have put 10-12 guys in the UFC, and we continue on putting together matchups that fans want to see.”

UCC5: Unleashed promised to deliver the action and excitement MMA fans yearn for.

Headlining the main event of the evening is a matchup between Kenny Foster and Maratbek Kalabekov. Foster was a featherweight semifinalist for Bellator, and Maratbek is a seasoned BJJ practitioner who has 11 submissions in 14 wins.

The complete fight card (subject to change) is as follows:

Kevin Horowitz vs Joshua Key

Thiago Carfi vs Dwayne Holman

Daniel Carbonel vs Zech Lange

Kundo Kundo vs Garett Moldoff

Yusuf Yoldas vs Darrius Heyliger

Jarrell Miller vs J.A Dudley

Darren Goodall vs Maykon Santos

Mike Stewart vs Erick Tavares

Going forward in 2012 the UCC will be active through the remainder of the summer and into the fall.

“We are looking to put on two more shows in the fall; one in early October and the other in late November,” said Sblendorio. “Right now we are also putting together a 3-fight tournament which will take place toward the end of the summer. It is going to be called the “Iron Bound Challenge”, and will only be for up-and-coming fighters with 3 pro fights or less. There will be four different weight classes, and the winner of each class will receive $5,000.”

Sblendorio added that all of the three events through the summer and fall will be held in Newark.

UCC5: Unleashed will take place next Thursday, June 28 at the Teaneck Armory Arena in Teaneck, NJ. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. with the first fight commencing at 8.
