World Extreme Cagefighting star Urijah Faber (23-4) is set to make his bantamweight promotional debut against Takeya Mizugaki. He’ll meet the Japanese fighter at next months WEC 52: Faber vs. Mizugaki event at The Pearl at The Palms in Las Vegas.
Faber spoke to Fighters Only Magazine recently about his move to 135 pounds and whether this was a permanent move for the fighter.
“I think I would definitely like to move around in weights. One of my goals when I started this sport was to be one of the best pound-for-pound guys. Being able to move up and down in weight-classes, and be successful at multiple weight-classes, is how that really happens. If I could be a guy that’s successful at 35’s, 45’s and 55’s I’d like to do that. I could see a fight between myself and Aldo, or Frankie Edgar. We’re not too far off you know, maybe 10-15lbs, I’d even say he’s probably about the same size, or even smaller, than Aldo.”
“The California Kid’s” most memorable fight?
“I would say the first one is probably my third fight (a Gladiator Challenge 27: FightFest 2 decision victory over David Velasquez). It was the first time that I’d really been challenged with an extremely tough opponent and the first time I received a belt. After that I would say the fight with Jens Pulver (WEC 34). “
