A bantamweight bout between Urijah Faber and Petr Yan is close to being finalized for UFC 245 in December.
A fight between two UFC bantamweights who are on very different paths in their MMA careers is being planned for UFC 245 in December, as Urijah Faber is set to take on Petr Yan.
ESPN first reported the news. “The California Kid” had previously shown interest in a fight against current 135-pound champion Henry Cejudo, however a fight with Yan was never something that was talked about, and comes somewhat out of the blue.
Faber (35-10) defeated Ricky Simon in just 46 seconds when they fought in the co-main event of UFC Sacramento in July. The fight was Faber’s first after two and half years away from the cage, and it’s clear with this scheduled fight against Yan that his comeback was not short-lived.
Yan (13-1) has fought five times in less than a year in the UFC after signing for the promotion in June 2018. Currently undefeated since March 2016, the Russian’s wins over the likes of John Dodson and Jimmie Rivera have placed Yan at fourth in the UFC’s bantamweight rankings.
UFC 245 takes place on December 14th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. A UFC welterweight title fight between Kamaru Usman and former interim champ Colby Covington will headline the card.
