UFC heavyweight Walt Harris accepted a four-month USADA suspension on Monday.
Walt Harris has accepted a four-month USADA suspension, the UFC’s anti-doping partner announced Monday.
Harris, a UFC heavyweight, failed an in-competition drug test related to last December’s UFC 232, where he defeated Andrei Arlovski by split decision in Inglewood, California. “Big Ticket” tested positive for the anabolic agent LGD-4033. USADA determined the failure was a result of a contaminated supplement, so it reduced Harris’ sanction.
“Following notification of his positive test, Harris provided USADA with information about a dietary supplement product he was using before and at the time of the relevant sample collection,” a USADA release read. “Although no prohibited substances were listed on the supplement label, analysis conducted on both the open and independently sourced, unopened containers of the product by the WADA-accredited laboratory in Salt Lake City, Utah, indicated that the product contained LGD-4033.”
The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC), which administered the Dec. 29 test, also suspended Harris four months and fined him $4,000. The CSAC overturned Harris’ win over Arlovski to a no contest earlier this year.
Harris is eligible to return to the cage on April 29. He is currently scheduled to fight newcomer Sergey Spivak on May 4 at UFC Ottawa.
