Bekzod Nurmatov suffered a stroke and fell into a coma shortly after competing on the Absolute Championships of Akhmat 100 show last weekend.
A mixed martial arts fighter from Uzbekistan has died a few days after competing on the Absolute Championships of Akhmat (AKA) event in Chechnya.
Bekzod Nurmatov, 27, competed on the ACA 100 show last weekend in a welterweight bout against Chechen fighter Beslan Isaev. The Uzbek fighter lost a close split decision and later suffered a stroke before being taken to hospital. He fell into a coma and died on Monday, October 7.
”Bekzod died on Monday. There was a stroke. He fell into a coma after the fight,” an unnamed source told tass.ru.
The ACA 100 event took place in Grozny, Chechnya and was attended by dictator Ramzan Kadyrov, the owner of the ACA MMA promotion. While Kadyrov did not personally comment on the death, ACA officials posted a statement on Monday evening.
“The Akhmat fight club and its president Abuzayd Vismuradov express their sincere condolences to the relatives and friends of Bekzod Nurmatov about the irreparable loss. We knew Bekzod was a good, decent, kind person, and a talented athlete.May the Almighty show him his mercy and grant happiness in the eternal world. We grieve with his family!”
Nurmatov held a 11-2 professional MMA record and was also a cadet with the Armed Forces Academy in Uzbekistan. Earlier this year, he defeated Kyrgyz athlete Kadir Kurstan uulu Abdulaziz Utamuradov to become the “Batyr Bashy” MMA champion.
