Brok Weaver and Kazula Vargas faced each other in a Lightweight clash tonight (Sat., Feb. 15, 2020) at UFC Fight Night 167, which took place inside Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Despite being in complete control of the bout, Vargas disqualified himself with a brutal illegal knee.
Vargas swings wide with an early overhand. Vargas with a switch kick and lots of pressure. Good calf kick lands for Vargas. Another. Vargas swings wildly, hits the mid-section, and then digs the calf yet again. Vargas catches a kick and off-balances his foe, prompting him to throw a flying knee, huge flurry, and score a takedown.
We’re only a minute into the fight.
Weaver gets his back to the fence, looking to wall-walk. Weaver threatens the neck but is unable to climb up, which allows Vargas to triangle the legs. Weaver somehow wraps up the neck despite the triangle, falling back to his guard with a guillotine choke. It looks tight for a moment, but Vargas escapes. Vargas rips the body from within the guard/wall position. Weaver finally regains his footing, attacks a guillotine choke momentarily. Weaver attempts to use a kimura to sweep his foe, landing on his back in the process.
With Weaver completely on the mat, Vargas blasts his opponent with a blatantly illegal knee. Weaver goes to sleep, and this bout ends in disqualification.
Result: Brok Weaver defeats Kazula Vargas via disqualification (knee to a downed opponent)
