The former UFC champ is already garnering serious interest from pro wrestling companies after two impressive showings.
Could the UFC lose Cain Velasquez to the WWE?
It certainly seems more possible now than it did a few weeks ago. The former UFC heavyweight champion just competed in his second pro wrestling match for Mexico’s AAA lucha libre promotion, and his performance was so good it attracted the attention of both the WWE and major indy AEW.

That’s according to wrasslin’ insider extraordinaire Dave Meltzer, and just in case you were worried it’s some of that kayfabe stuff, ESPN just confirmed it as well. They specify that Velasquez’s team has ‘been in touch’ with both companies. He also met with New Japan Pro Wrestling officials when they were in San Francisco recently.
While Velasquez still has a bunch of fights left on his UFC contract and would require their permission continue his pro wrestling journey, this doesn’t seem like one of those situations where the UFC would try to force him back into the cage. Cain was out for years trying to rehab his body after a string of injuries, and then he went and injured his knee again in his first fight back against Francis Ngannou — a 26 second affair that just seemed to confirm the end of his MMA career was nigh.
Cain Velasquez with a fucking cutter.
Unbelievable. #InvadingNY

So how is Velasquez flying through the air and taking big bumps and doing all sorts of incredible stuff in pro wrestling when he can’t seem to step into the cage without his MCL blowing out? Perhaps whatever gypsy curse he was hit with in 2013 only applies to mixed martial arts, and this gets him around that like some sort of mystic loophole.
Or maybe he’s going to pull a shooting star press in his next appearance and just explode into a thousand gibblets. Either way, we’ll watch it.
