Fan favorite Cerrone maybe had a little too much fun on the set of Spenser Confidential
Recent Netflix release Spenser Confidential featured the acting debut of Donald Cerrone, and it appears he jumped into the filmmaking process with both feet.
In a promotional video released by Netflix, Cerrone describes being involved in the choreography of the fights, explaining that director Peter Berg, “wanted to make it more action-packed and realistic.” Berg, who is involved in the boxing business as both an owner of a gym and a management company, knows a thing or two about what a real fight should look like.
While Cerrone clearly had a great time, stating “I can’t believe they pay me to do this,” and that it “has been such a fun experience for me,” it seems co-star Mark Wahlberg had a slightly different experience.
“The most dangerous thing I’ve done in film is fighting with UFC fighter Cowboy Cerrone,” Mark Wahlberg says. “Cowboy has never been in a fake fight in his life. I was like, ‘You’re kicking me pretty hard.’”
A fairly bold declaration from the star of The Fighter (2010), who said the fight scenes in that movie, “…wasn’t a stylized fight, it was real boxing,” and “we’re not talking about putting the camera in there and saying, ‘OK, we’re going to do a stunt punch here.’ No, we’re going in there and beat the s—t out of each other and we’re going to make it real.”
Despite the danger of working with Cerrone, Wahlberg praised the “fantastic stunt team,” saying “nobody was hurt, we didn’t break anything.”
In addition to the fight sequences, the clip shows off some significant stunt work involving cars and semis. If possible, Cerrone seemed to enjoy those stunts even more than the fights. “Gimme the key, turn me loose, I’ll smash through all the cars all day long.”
Cerrone Tweeted out the promo, complete with apology to co-star Mark Wahlberg.
My first time being in a fake fight was a little too real (sorry @MarkWahlberg). Check this clip out and then watch #SpenserConfidential now, only on @Netflix #ad pic.twitter.com/ZPJhlFKnzD
