Newly released video of Conor McGregor’s World MMA Awards acceptance speech shows he took a dig at more than just Fabricio Werdum
By now we all know that Conor McGregor made new when he won the World MMA Awards title of Fighter of the Year. And of course, being him, it wasn’t so much about the award itself as it was a chance to take a shot at a few fellow fighters out there. Most notably was Fabricio Werdum, who fired right back with a strangely sexual instagram post.
But, newly released video from Fighters Only shows that McGregor also had some words for two other notable UFC talents, namely Nate Diaz and Frankie Edgar. MMAFighting transcribed his quotes targeting the two men:
“The who’s who of MMA I’m sure is there in their badly fitted suits, having a penny in their pocket,” McGregor said. “I heard Nate Diaz couldn’t even afford to fly over to Las Vegas for the ceremony. Frankie Edgar… I heard he’s dressed like a little Sheikh servant or something struggling to make a few quid.
“Hard work pays so take notes,” he continued. “Stop holding bitterness deep in your bum soul. Stuck on 20,000 to show and 20,000 to fight. I wipe my ass with that money. I tip your wage in a year.”
We all know Nate Diaz* has been highly critical of his UFC pay, but fans might not remember Frankie Edgar’s recent surprise cornerman for his Chad Mendes fight. Bahrain’s Crown Prince Khaled Bin Hamad Al Khalifa is the principal owner of Frankie Edgar’s new fight team KHK MMA, which includes Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev. So, shots fired on all fronts from the UFC’s featherweight champion.
