Daniel Cormier has built a home gym in preparation for UFC 252.
With many gyms across the United States still closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, Daniel Cormier has taken the initiative to build his own gym at home ahead of UFC 252, where he will rematch Stipe Miocic for the UFC heavyweight title.
Cormier, who usually trains at the American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) facility in San Jose, posted a video of the home gym on social media.
“Big thank you to @chadjhaygood and his crew for doing this while I am gone. When I head home I’ll have a home gym in place. Full wrestling and grappling mat, cage door, 2airdynes, 2 echelon bikes, treadmill, 2 heavy bags and ground and pound dummy. I’m so excited about having all this available for camp. Let’s go!!! If you want it bad enough, you can make it happen. #andnewagain,” Cormier posted last month.
Retired UFC veteran Josh Thomson, who is a former training partner of Cormier’s, confirmed that the former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion has been forced to train at home for UFC 252 and is concerned that ‘DC’ won’t be at his best on fight night.
“This fight is not at his camp. This fight is not at AKA, because AKA is closed,” Thomson said on a recent episode of Weighing In (h/t BJPenn.com). “So what they are doing is, he built a gym at his house. He has the coaches go there with a couple of the guys like Deron Winn, to wrestle, and also to spar with Kyle Crutchmer and some other guys that were there. So I don’t know if we’re going to see the best of both guys.”
UFC 252: Miocic vs. Cormier III will take place on August 15 at the UFC APEX facility in Las Vegas, Nevada.
