Former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez is back in the winners column.
Eddie Alvarez got off to a terrible start in his lightweight bout against Eduard Folayang earlier this morning at ONE Championship: Dawn of Heroes, but the former UFC lightweight titleholder and multi-promotion MMA champ rallied back to secure a rear-naked choke at the midway point of the first round.
Alvarez, who lost in his ONE FC debut to Timofey Nastyukhin, snapped a two-fight losing streak and will advance to the finals of the ONE Championship lightweight grand prix.
Alvarez, 35, was downed with a leg kick at 3:37 of the first round and looked to be on the verge of yet another TKO loss until ‘The Underground King’ swept his opponent from half-guard, transitioned to full mount, took the back and secured a rear-naked choke.

Alvarez, who parted ways with the UFC in 2018 to sign with ONE Championship, was clearly ecstatic with the win and relieved to be back in the winners column. The fan favorite is is expected to face Saygid Guseyn Arslanaliev in the ONE FC lightweight grand prix finale sometime later this year.
