Jacare seems in good spirits after suffering a brutal injury at UFC 262.
One of the more shocking incidents to occur at this weekend’s UFC 262 was Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza losing to Andre Muniz in brutal fashion. Souza, one of the greatest submission grapplers the MMA world has ever seen, was finished by technical submission after Muniz snapped the Brazilian’s arm.
The total break of Jacare’s humerus bone came with an audible crack that sent shivers down the spines of many onlookers. However, despite the devastating nature of the injury, Souza seemed unfazed in the cage. He calmly congratulated Muniz (who had just picked up the best win of his career) and then left the cage under his own power.
Last night Souza uploaded a video to Instagram to let everyone know how he’s doing and where he goes from here.
“Hey what’s up everybody? Yeah, I’m in the hospital right now,” said a beaming Souza. “So, I broke my arm and I have surgery tomorrow. Thanks UFC for all the awesome support and thanks everyone for rooting for me. I think everything is going to be fine. Thank you.”
The loss to Muniz was the fourth loss in the row for the 41-year-old Souza. His previous three losses include an improbable KO to Kevin Holland, a split decision to current UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz and a unanimous decision loss to Jack Hermansson.
Souza’s last win was a crushing KO of Chris Weidman at UFC 230.
Souza joined the UFC through ZUFFA’s purchase of Strikeforce, a promotion in which he was a one-time middleweight champion. Since then he’s fought 16 times in the Octagon and holds a UFC record of 9-7. He’s earned two Fight of the Night awards, four Performance of the Night awards and a Submission of the Night award. His overall record stands at 26-10 (1 NC).
