Following the sad news of Abdulmanap’s death from Coronavirus complications, video has emerged of Khabib and his countryman mourning the father and coach.
After months of rumors and conflicting news on his condition, Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov died at the age of 57 due to complications from Coronavirus.
More than just the father to the UFC lightweight champion, Abdulmanap is reknown across Dagestan and Russia for his contributions to martial arts and training some of the best fighters in the world. After his death, the mixed martial arts community opened up on what an honorable and important man he was in life.
Khabib has yet to make a statement, but footage from News095 shows a gathering on Friday night after the terrible news broke to pray for Abdulmanap.
Attending the gathering was controversial Chechen Republic leader Ramzan Kadyrov.
“The head of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov last night, accompanied by his closest associates, visited Kirovaul RD to honor his memory and express condolences to the relatives and friends of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov,” the video’s caption reads. “Kadyrov noted the universal respect that Abdulmanap and his great achievements in the development of sport had. He said that from the first days they were in touch with relatives and really hoped for his speedy recovery. Khabib Nurmagomedov thanked Kadyrov for the visit and respect for his father. He also expressed gratitude for the help that Kadyrov provided in transferring his father to the Moscow clinic and further treatment.”
“The plan of the Most High cannot be changed, for all one’s will,” Khabib was quoted as saying.
Khabib’s next fight is set to go down sometime in September against Justin Gaethje, although at this time it is unclear whether his father’s passing may affect this. Abdulmanap’s death is already affecting cards as Khabib teammates Umar Nurmagomedov and Tagir Ulanbekov have both pulled out of their upcoming Fight Island bouts in July over the passing of their coach.
