Matt Mitrione (9-4) will be fighting Travis Browne (17-3-1) at UFC Fight Night 81, and regardless of the outcome, he plans to test the free agency market after the fight. The heavyweight bout against Browne will mark the end of Mitrione’s contractual obligations to the UFC.
As shown in the above video, Mitrione spoke with Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting about how he and UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta couldn’t reach a deal they were both happy with. Mitrione explained he would like to stay with the UFC, and his decision came only after he and Fertitta couldn’t agree on money.
UFC Fight Night 81 takes place this Sunday, January 17th, at TD Garden in Boston. The fights will air on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
