Longtime ONE Championship fighter Ma Jia Wen may have got put away quick in his fight against Shinechagtga Zoltsetseg, but he nearly got a win back on the referee immediately afterward.

With a lack of 10-count, MMA has had a reputation – at times – for quick stoppages. Fighters get dropped hard, and the ref jumps in—despite the fact that the downed fighter may still be actively trying to continue. That can lead to a lot of heated post-fight exchanges, fighters claiming that they’re totally fine and deserved the chance to keep fighting.

But then, there are some fighters who just don’t stop to complain at all. Brains operating on automatic as they try to recuperate their senses; just latch on to whatever’s handy and keep the afloat for as long as possible. Even if whatever’s handy happens to not even belong to their opponent.

At ONE Championship: A New Tomorrow, Chinese lightweight Ma Jia Wen found himself latched on to the leg of referee Olivier Costa, shortly after eating a bomb from Mongolia’s Shinechagtga Zoltsetseg. Ma tumbled to the mat as Costa stepped in to stop the fight, and then rolled through for what would have been a sweet kneebar, if only he hadn’t ended up grappling with the wrong man. Check out the highlight below…
