Two amateur MMA fighters — James Collins and Marty Navis — fell through the cage door at a local event in Massachusetts.
Perceived as one of the most dangerous and violent sports in the mainstream, MMA didn’t do itself any favors at Cage Titans 27 — a regional show in Plymouth, Massachusetts — on Saturday night.
James Collins and Marty Navis, two amateur fighters who made their mixed martial arts debut last night (h/t @AdelBrkic), fell straight through the cage door during a grappling exchange.
UFC veteran Joe Lauzon was in attendance and uploaded the video footage to Instagram shortly after the event.
“Not a good night for one of my fighters. Through the gate and onto the floor. No contest. My fighter was okay but the other guy went to the hospital for (I think) his ribs.”
Cage Titans confirmed on Friday via Instagram that they used a brand new cage for the event, and the bout between Collins and Navis has reportedly been declared a no-contest.
“We have been keeping it under wraps but are now proud and excited to let everyone know that we bought a brand new cage for Cage Titans. We had an amazing 2015, selling out all 5 shows, and wanted a way to say thank you to everyone involved, especially the fighters, by investing back into our product. In the end, we couldn’t think of any better way than getting this new, top of the line “stage” for all the fighters to showcase their talents in and are looking forward to breaking it in tomorrow night!”
