Sean O’Malley got Henry Cejudo and Kamaru Usman good.
Noche UFC at UFC 306 fight week has arrived and that means the return of the Bantamweight champion, O’Malley, who will defend for the second time. Before the “Sugar Show” enters the Las Vegas Sphere for a duel against Merab Dvalishvili, it made its way to Cejudo and Usman’s Pound 4 Pound podcast … briefly.
O’Malley, 29, started the show with the pair of former UFC champions and disappeared in the blink of an eye after delivering the message relayed in the embedded video above.
“Boys, you guys know I’m a very, very busy man. I’ll keep this short,” O’Malley said. “I came here for two reasons. 1. To praise you, Kamaru. You’re an absolute legend, and 2. Henry, how’d you let ‘Aljo’ (Aljamain Sterling) take you down so easy? (laughs). You’re welcome!”
The champion took a page out of both UFC CEO, Dana White, and multi-time UFC title challenger, Chael Sonnen’s, books with his “effort” on the podcast. It’s good to keep focused on the tough task at hand, after all.
As playful and mild as it was from the champion, Cejudo wasn’t overly thrilled. “Triple C” noted after the bail from O’Malley that his plan is still to return to Flyweight when he fights next. That’s unless he gets his long-desired shot against the Helena, Montana native.
“Don’t f*cking praise him after that,” Cejudo laughed in response to Usman. “Once he loses to Merab, because I do believe he’s going to lose to Merab, f*cking the next fight that’s up is me and him.
“The next best thing is gonna be me [vs. O’Malley],” he continued. “Yeah, granted, I’ve lost to the former champion, lost to the soon-to-be pending world champion, but what could we say?”
