If you like grisly injuries in combat sports, this post is for you.
Over the weekend, former UFC fighter Pearl Gonzalez competed at a Combat Jiu-Jitsu event, earning a victory in the most grisly of fashions.
Gonzalez, who currently fights for Invicta FC as well, took on Lilian Borja in the hybrid rules organization. CJJ isn’t quite BJJ and it’s not quite MMA either. Open-handed strikes are allowed, but only on the ground.
In this match at Combat Jiu-Jitsu Worlds 3, Gonzalez managed to secure a triangle choke on her opponent. She couldn’t force the tap that way, so she grabbed an arm and cranked on that too. And then she broke that arm.

Yikes. Everyone figured out pretty quickly that her arm popped, and the match was stopped because of it. Good work by the ref and the commentators to catch it right away.
Gonzalez went 0-2 in her UFC stint in 2017, and is 10-4 overall in MMA. She picked up a win in her last Invicta outing, beating Brogan Walker-Sanchez via decision. She is 4-1 in Invicta overall, only dropping a technical decision in a title fight due to her eye-poking her opponent, leaving her unable to continue and sending the fight to the scorecards prematurely.
