After a lip-splitting loss last December, Alistair Overeem gets back in the win column with a TKO victory over Walt Harris.
Last December, Alistair Overeem was dealing with a lip-splitting knockout loss to Jairzinho Rozenstruik. On Saturday night, he was able to bounce back with a second-round TKO victory over “The Big Ticket” Walt Harris.
What was the high point of the fight?
The first round itself was action-packed. For a few moments there, it looked like Harris was about to get the job done and notch the biggest victory of his career. He was even able to open a cut above Overeem’s right eye.
But the 21-year veteran kept his composure and turned the tables when he got top position. Overeem carried his momentum in the second round when he dropped Harris with a high kick and proceeded with his ground-and-pound attacks.
With a better showing this time around, referee Dan Miragliotta eventually stopped the fight at the three-minute mark of round two to give Overeem victory number 46.
Where do these two fighters go from here?
It’s been a tough, draining half a year for Walt Harris, with the disappearance and death of his daughter Aniah Blanchard. After failing to notch a victory tonight, it might be best for him to take a break from fighting for now and recover both physically and emotionally.
As for Overeem, he can still prove that he is worthy to be in the top ten. I’d say give him a chance to avenge one of his losses, either against Rozenstruik or Curtis Blaydes.
Watch it now, later, or never?
After a succession of questionable decisions in the main card alone, this one is worthy of watching immediately.
