Derek Brunson will face Edmen Shabazyan in the main event of UFC Vegas 5, which is set to go down this Sat. night (Aug. 1, 2020) inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada. Brunson is looking to earn his third straight victory over one of the hotter prospects in the division in Shahbazyan, who has yet to taste defeat in mixed martial arts (MMA), going 11-0 including winning his first four UFC fights.
Before then, UFC put together a list of Brunson’s top finishes of his career. And there were plenty to choose from, as 14 of his 20 wins have come via stoppage. In fact, he had a great streak going in 2015-2016 where he reeled off four straight knockout wins in the very first round.
- Rear-naked choke submission win over Brian Houston at UFC Fight For The Troops 3 in 2013
- First-round knockout of Ed Herman at UFC 183 in 2015
- First-round knockout over Sam Alvey at UFC Fight Night 73 in 2015
- First-round knockout of Roan Carneiro at UFC Fight Night 83 in 2016
- First-round knockout of Uriah Hall at UFC Fight Night 94 in 2016
- First-round knockout of Dan Kelly at UFC Fight Night 110 in 2017
- First-round knockout of Lyoto Machida at UFC Fight Night 119 in 2017 (full fight here)
If he can score an impressive finish over “The Golden Boy,” Brunson’s stock would blow up and put him in the championship mix. In the co-main event of UFC Vegas 5, Joanne Calderwood will face Jennifer Maia while Vicente Luque faces Randy Brown in welterweight action on the main card.
