Former UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey admitted to Ellen DeGeneres that she had contemplated suicide after her brutal loss to Holly Holm.
Right before UFC 193 last November, Ronda Rousey was on top of the world.
It all came crashing down after one left kick to the jaw, courtesy of Holly Holm, that to this day is seen as one of the biggest upsets in UFC history. Just like that, the woman deemed by Sports Illustrated as the “most dominant athlete in the world” had lost her aura of invincibility.
Rousey had largely kept herself out of the public eye after the loss, making her January 23rd ‘Saturday Night Live’ appearance as her first one on-screen since that unforgettable night in Melbourne.
But it wasn’t until Tuesday’s episode of Ellen when “Rowdy” bared all of her post-fight emotions. She admitted to host Ellen DeGeneres that she was “knocked out on [her] feet like the first time [she] got hit,” and the loss shook her up so much that she actually had contemplated about ending her own life.
“I was literally sitting there and thinking about killing myself, and that exact second I’m like, ‘I’m nothing. What do I do anymore? And no one gives a sh*t about me anymore without this,’” a tearful Rousey said.
Rousey adds that what actually stopped her from doing so was the thought of boyfriend and fellow UFC fighter Travis Browne, whom she actually foresees having a family with.
“To be honest, I looked up and I saw my man Travis was standing up there and I looked up at him and I was like, I need to have his babies. I need to stay alive.”
