A fairly heated staredown between Vettori and Costa happened at the weigh-ins for UFC Vegas 41 on Friday.
Marvin Vettori had some choice words — and gestures — for Paulo Costa following the official weigh-ins for UFC Vegas 41 on Friday morning.
Vettori and Costa have had an interesting week as several last-minute changes to the contracted weight class the fight was to be contested at continued to be made. Both men were supposed to meet at middleweight, but that shifted to a 195-pound catchweight after Costa revealed earlier this week that he was not going to make the 186-pound limit. Once negotiations between both teams were completed and contracts were signed for the new weight, yet another switch happened, and the fight would now be contested at light heavyweight.
Vettori was understandably irritated by Costa, and he let him know just how much when they came face-to-face for the first time after successfully hitting the scales at 204 and 204.5 pounds, respectively. The ‘Italian Dream’ immediately greeted ‘Borrachinha’ with two middle fingers and blasted his opponent in an expletive-filled diatribe. Vettori tried to push past UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby and security but was held back and separated from Costa. As he started to be guided off stage, Vettori yelled out, ‘You lost to the f—king scale!’ as Costa looked on and delivered a response of his own.
Costa remained on stage for a few more seconds before offering a quick flex and leaving. If you thought that was the end of it, you were wrong. Peering behind the curtain was Vettori, who was still fired up enough to continue his verbal assault on Costa and called him a ‘b—ch’ as he and his team walked away. He also had some words for Wallid Ismail, the manager of Costa.
