The ‘Axe Murderer’ is a chip off the old cell block in this fighting family.
Wanderlei Silva’s son recently made his amateur Muay Thai debut and put on a striking clinic.
“The Axe Murderer” shared Instagram footage of son Thor Silva’s first-ever Muay Thai fight. Thor went straight vicious on his opponent. A four-punch combination was followed by a thudding kick to the body. The sad victim looked immediately bothered by the body-kick which Thor followed with another Blitzkrieg of strikes. Thor’s opponent never left his feet, but the referee checked up on the poor sod and subsequently called off the fight roughly 30 seconds into the first round.
“I’m always training, and then one day I thought to myself, ‘Why am I training? Oh, I want to fight, I want to be like my father,’” Silva told MMA Fighting. “My dad inspired me to fight.”
Wanderlei compared his son’s victory to his own experiences as a fighter. The UFC and PRIDE legend said he too won his first fight by knockout in about 30-seconds. He praised his son’s professionalism in the lead up to the fight and also acknowledged Thor’s opponent for stepping up.
Wanderlei, who is coming off two consecutive losses in Bellator, recently signed with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship.
