Strictly in terms of mixed martial arts (MMA), or professional sports, I’m not sure how much I care about the upcoming fights at Bellator 149, featuring Ken Shamrock vs. Royce Gracie and Kimbo Slice vs. Dada 5000, taking place this Friday night (Feb. 19, 2016) inside Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
Full details here.
But assuming their motives are legit, these are a pair of compelling bouts from a human interest perspective, something I was not expecting as I rolled through the promotion’s “Shamrock/Gracie/Kimbo/Dada 5000” special on Spike TV, which is now available for replay in the video player above.
Gracie and Shamrock are pioneers of the sport and it’s hard to believe they are still able to compete when you consider their combined age is 101. Actually, Kimbo is no spring chicken either, clocking in at 42 while DaDa — real name Dhafir Harris — is 38. They have beef over who the “real” fighter is and who is simply a carbon copy.
I guess we’ll find out this Friday night.
