Folks, we are counting down to the promotion’s next big pay-per-view (PPV) event, as UFC 235: “Jones vs. Smith” gets underway this Sat. night (March 2, 2019) inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
It’s clearly the most stacked fight card of the year, which I know isn’t saying much considering we’re still in the first quarter, but outside of the championship doubleheader, we also have the welterweight debut of Ben Askren opposite the return of “beast” Robbie Lawler. In addition, former bantamweight champion, Cody Garbrandt, gets back on his horse opposite Pedro Munhoz.
As good as those fights are, this event is all about the main and co-main events, which is why UFC uncorked another “Countdown” special to give them their due hype. Jon Jones makes an uncharacteristically quick turnaround to defend his 205-pound title opposite dangerous light heavyweight striker, Anthony Smith.
Before that gets underway, Tyron Woodley will make his way to the Octagon — laughing at Colby Covington the entire way — for a welterweight title defense against 170-pound menace, Kamaru Usman. The winner of this fight may or may not face the winner of Askren vs. Lawler, so there’s quite a bit at stake this weekend in “Sin City.”
